We obtain formulas for the growth rate of the numbers of certain paths in infinite graphs built on the two-dimensional Eulerian graph. Corollaries are identities relating Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds.Comment: Misprint corrected. To appear in Proc. Amer. Math. So

Evaluation of an envelope-limiting device using simulation and flight test of a remotely piloted research vehicle

Get PDF
The operating characteristics of a nonlinear envelope-limiting device were investigated at extreme flight conditions by using a real time digital aircraft spin simulation and flight tests of a scale model remotely piloted research vehicle. A digital mechanization of the F-15 control system, including the stall inhibiter, was used in the simulation and in the control system of the scale model. The operational characteristics of the stall inhibiter and the effects of the stall inhibiter on the spin susceptibility of the airplane were investigated

Isomorphism and embedding of Borel systems on full sets

A Borel system consists of a measurable automorphism of a standard Borel space. We consider Borel embeddings and isomorphisms between such systems modulo null sets, i.e. sets which have measure zero for every invariant probability measure. For every t>0 we show that in this category there exists a unique free Borel system (Y,S) which is strictly t-universal in the sense that all invariant measures on Y have entropy <t, and if (X,T) is another free system obeying the same entropy condition then X embeds into Y off a null set. One gets a strictly t-universal system from mixing shifts of finite type of entropy at least t by removing the periodic points and "restricting" to the part of the system of entropy <t. As a consequence, after removing their periodic points the systems in the following classes are completely classified by entropy up to Borel isomorphism off null sets: mixing shifts of finite type, mixing positive-recurrent countable state Markov chains, mixing sofic shifts, beta shifts, synchronized subshifts, and axiom-A diffeomorphisms. In particular any two equal-entropy systems from these classes are entropy conjugate in the sense of Buzzi, answering a question of Boyle, Buzzi and Gomez.Comment: 17 pages, v2: correction to bibliograph

Four phase logic systems

Get PDF
A four-phase logic system is provided which includes at least four logic networks connected in parallel between a single power line and a reference potential. A four-phase clock generator generates four distinct clock signals from a single-phase clock input at data rate. Each logic network comprises a pair of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor integrated transistors (CMOST). Each metal-oxide-Semiconductor transistor (MOST) in the pair is responsive to a clock signal which turns the transistor on or off. In each network, there is also at least one MOST which is responsive to a logic signal. The logic transistor is connected in cascade with the pair of CMOSTs

Technique can provide four-phase clock signal from single-phase clock and requires only one power supply voltage. This arrangement saves considerable power compared to circuits having load resistor between power supply and ground

Productivity and forage quality of a phytodiverse semi-natural grassland under various management regimes

Get PDF
Grassland management experiment (GrassMan) was set up in 2008 on a permanent semi-natural grassland in the Solling uplands, Germany. The main research focus is on the ecosystem functioning of the phytodiverse grassland (e.g. productivity and forage quality, water and nutrient fluxes). The aim of our study was to analyse the effects of vegetation composition and functional diversity on productivity and forage quality of the semi-natural permanent grassland. Variation in sward composition was achieved by herbicide application and resulted in three sward types: control sward type (without herbicide application), monocot-reduced and dicot-reduced. Further management factors included different nutrient input levels (without fertilizer and 180-30-100 kg/ha of N-P-K per year) and use intensity (cut once or three times a year). Functional diversity was determined by estimation of the yield shares for each species in the species composition and their specific functional characteristics. Forage quality was analysed by near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). While sward type influenced the forage quality, yield variation was explained mainly by the management regime

Utilization of nitrogen in legume-based mobile green manures stored as compost or silage

Get PDF
The utilization of nitrogen (N) in green manure leys can be improved by harvesting, storage and spreading of the plant material as manure in other crops. By green manure storage as silage, storage losses of N are lower than by composting. Also, a relatively high fertilizer value of silage N is achievable depending on the C/N ratio of the material. Nitrogen availability in green manure leys is higher after storage as silage compared to composting. Use of mobile green manures is mainly relevant in arable cropping systems without livestock where utilization of the roughage for animal feed or biogas production is impossible, as costs for ley/roughage harvest and transport can be relatively high. Our study showed that surface application of green manure silage to growing crops can damage plants and is therefore not recommended, whereas incorporation of silage before sowing has significant positive effects on crop yields

Extended Superconformal Algebras from Classical and Quantum Hamiltonian Reduction

We consider the extended superconformal algebras of the Knizhnik-Bershadsky type with WW-algebra like composite operators occurring in the commutation relations, but with generators of conformal dimension 1,32\frac{3}{2} and 2, only. These have recently been neatly classified by several groups, and we emphasize the classification based on hamiltonian reduction of affine Lie superalgebras with even subalgebras G⊕sl(2)G\oplus sl(2). We reveiw the situation and improve on previous formulations by presenting generic and very compact expressions valid for all algebras, classical and quantum. Similarly generic and compact free field realizations are presented as are corresponding screening charges. Based on these a discussion of singular vectors is presented. (Based on talk by J.L.
